Mercedes-Benz pushes iconic logo into new electrification era

Mercedes-Benz has recently launched its new campaign - Land Sea and Air. The campaign features the iconic three-pointed Mercedes star, which stood for Gottlieb Daimler's vision of mobility on land, on sea and in the air. However, through the new campaign, Mercedes-Benz aims to promote responsible handling of the elements by incorporating resource conservation, recycling, and CO2-neutrality in their operations. The brand believes that the elements earth, water, and air are the driving force of their business and pledge to integrate sustainable practices in their production and operations. With over a century of history behind them, it's clear that Mercedes-Benz is committed to staying ahead of the curve, and the Land Sea and Air campaign proves to be another milestone in their efforts to maintain environmental sustainability.

What Land, Sea, and Air mean today for Mercedes-Benz

Mercedes-Benz is on a mission to make its vehicles CO2-neutral along the entire value chain and lifecycle. The innovative Land, Sea, and Air campaign is a declaration of the brand's intent to achieve carbon-neutral mobility across the entire production cycle. This combined with an ambitious electrification objective makes Mercedes-Benz one of the leading automakers on the market right now when it comes to electrification

The Ambition 2039 strategy highlights a comprehensive approach that prioritizes sustainable and eco-friendly practices. The aim is to launch a fleet of cars and vans that are carbon neutral along the entire production chain and lifecycle from 2039. From 2025, all new vehicle frameworks will have a primary focus on electric models showcasing Mercedes-Benz's willingness to reduce their carbon footprint and promote environmental wellbeing.

A comprehensive vision of sustainability

Mercedes-Benz is taking a holistic approach towards sustainable battery life-cycle management, further exemplified through its "Land Sea and Air Campaign". As part of its commitment to conserving resources and promoting a closed economic cycle, the company offers remanufactured batteries for all electric vehicles. Furthermore, its subsidiary, Mercedes-Benz Energy, has established an impactful business model by repurposing batteries that can no longer be used in the vehicle, into a second-life storage system.

In addition to this, Mercedes-Benz is taking proactive steps to ensure sustainable measures for the future. The company has expanded its global battery recycling strategy, with plans in place to set up its own battery recycling factory based on hydrometallurgy in Germany. By consistently expanding its own expertise in the area of battery value creation, Mercedes-Benz is increasing the recycling rate to over 96 per cent. This not only promotes sustainable practices but also demonstrates the company's commitment towards a cleaner, greener future. The Land Sea and Air Campaign by Mercedes-Benz is a testament to the company's foresight and strategic planning in ensuring a sustainable future for their customers and the planet.

Significant reduction in waste and emissions

Mercedes-Benz is not only working on increasing the proportion of recycled materials in their vehicles but is also making strides in their Land Sea and Air campaign. The manufacturer is committed to reducing their carbon footprint and preserving the environment through various initiatives.

In their quest to conserve primary resources, the company is closing material cycles by utilizing new and innovative recyclates such as the plastic replacement material UBQTM which is made from upcycled household waste. Not stopping there, Mercedes-Benz is taking strides towards decarbonizing the steel supply chain and avoiding CO2 emissions. Their commitment to the use of sustainable materials extends to the vehicle interior, offering various fabrics made of recycled PET bottles and nylon yarn obtained from recyclable materials such as fishing nets and carpets. Their efforts to reduce waste and avoid the use of fossil raw materials are evident in the introduction of bow door handles made from biomethane and pyrolysis oil from recycled scrap tires for production models such as the EQE and S-Class.
