Fully-electric 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQB: here are the secrets of our newcomer
November 02 2022,
It's been more than a year since it was presented in Europe and it's finally here. We're talking about the EQB SUV, the newest addition to the Mercedes-Benz EQ electric family. This new model, which is currently an entry-level electric vehicle, promises to appeal to a very large number of customers in Canada, namely those looking for compact SUVs.
What do you need to know about this new model? Here are a few things that will help you get to know it.
Versions
How many versions will we get? At first, only one, the EQB 350. Other variants will follow (different drive gear, battery size, power, autonomy, etc.), but for the moment, this is what we are entitled to. However, it will be possible to add packages to the model in order to equip it with the features you prefer. For example, the Premium, Sport, Night and Intelligent Drive packages will be on the menu, each offering popular features.
Power and charging
We know that electric models are generous when it comes to performance. This first edition will not be outdone, as it will feature a 66.5 kWh battery, which translates into 288 horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque. All-wheel drive will be part of the equation, which promises to be very interesting.
As for charging time, we can give you a rough indication with what can be achieved on a Level 3 charging station. Because of its 110 kW capacity, it will be possible to increase the vehicle's range from 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes.
As for this range, Mercedes-Benz has shared the figures of the European WLTP cycle. These indicate 417 km. Roughly speaking, that should translate into something around 325 km at home, and probably more.
Structure and design
Structurally, it's pretty straightforward. The EQB SUV uses a modular platform that also houses the gasoline version. That's why the format is identical and the styling is very similar. On board, the formula is successfully repeated and the materials are of course of very high quality.
And, very interestingly, this electric variant will also offer a third row of seats, a very rare feature in this category of vehicles, even more so in the case of electric models. It will be ideal for children as Mercedes-Benz has designed it to easily accommodate people up to 5 feet 4 inches tall.
All the seats in the two rear rows can be folded down, so you get a very generous maximum cargo space.
All in all, it's a very attractive product that's about to make its debut, and what's very encouraging is that the first driving impressions gathered from all over the world are more than positive about this model.
Watch for its introduction and then come discover it with us.
